Backpack on, barefoot at PAJAMAS Koh Chang Hostel
PAJAMAS Koh Chang Hostel is a name known to backpackers around the world. It is run in a relaxed, family-style way by Khun Chat (Chatchawan) Thongmanokoon and Khun Oat (Phianghathai) Phanmaneelak. The two young managers told us they started in the hostel business to be different and to serve the hostel market of young travellers, because Koh Chang did not yet have many hostels. If you drive past, you might not know what this place is, but once you step in “barefoot”, you will cry “Wow” straight away. Guests spread the word by mouth and come back to visit every year.
The pool is the star and the symbol of our place, because its design is unlike any other. It is a free-form pool with two indented curves, and we worried about whether it could be built. When we showed J.D.Pools the picture of what we wanted, they designed and built the pool for us. Khun Chat (Chatchawan) Thongmanokoon
Khun Chat shows off the star of PAJAMAS and explains why he put his trust in J.D.Pools.
“We chose J.D.Pools because they have an office on Koh Chang. I think every company has its pros and cons and about the same number of problems, but having an office where we build the pool helps the business and means they can look after our pool much better.”
Khun Oat (Phianghathai) added a small worry as an operator: “At first we wanted a tiled pool, but tiles can crack and cut guests' feet. I was also a little worried about whether an iPANEL LINER would look as upscale as tile. In the end the guests love it, and an iPANEL LINER pool is easy to look after and beautiful. It was the right decision.”
